Meet Diana Irey Vaughan – Washington County Commissioner and Candidate for Lieutenant Governor

Diana Irey Vaughan is a five-term Washington County Commissioner, a mother of three, and the wife of Lt. Col. Robert Vaughan. First elected in 1995, she is the only woman to have ever served as Washington County Commissioner. Diana is well-respected across the county as a job creator with a track record of fiscal responsibility and the leadership and business acumen to make tough decisions.

Diana’s leadership and accomplishments in economic development have helped to create an environment in Washington County that has sustained its residents and brought new growth during challenging economic times nationally and regionally. Her involvement in the completion of the Southpointe Industrial Park has created more than 9,000 jobs and is anticipated to bring an additional 5,000 jobs upon completion of all park acreage.

As a leader in prison reform, Diana launched the “Furlough Into Service” Program, which takes non-violent inmates out of the Washington County Correctional Facility and puts them to work throughout the county for local governments, communities, and non-profits. Diana’s efforts have made significant improvements to Washington County’s parks system to provide better recreational opportunities to county residents.

Diana is also a leader in fiscal reform, serving on the Washington County Retirement Board and working to bring innovative programming to offenders to reduce their recidivism rate. She played a key role in creating an OPEB (Other Post Employment Benefits) Trust Account, significantly lowering the overall liability, with an established funding policy.

As a community-minded individual, Diana has been involved in numerous charitable organizations and events such as Celebrity Night performances for Wash Arts, co-chaired the walk for March of Dimes and Washington County Heart Walk, and taught Government in Action at First Love Christian Academy.

Diana Irey Vaughan is running for Lieutenant Governor of Pennsylvania to support an accountable, responsive government, transform the business climate, and ensure that families can live, work, and raise their families in a desirable climate of family values, plentiful jobs, and low crime rates. She is running with Paul Mango, who shares her values and vision for the Commonwealth. Pennsylvania has an opportunity, by electing Paul Mango and Diana Irey Vaughan, to have leaders with impeccable character and unmatched competence to restore the dream.
